IS YOUR COUNCIL’S FUNDRAISING APPEAL A GOOD STORY TELLER?

In these challenging economic times, the competition for donors’ financial assistance is quite intense. How does your council stand out from the rest of the charities competing for the same donors’ financial resources? Is your council allowing its fundraising appeal to tell the right story? The article “Tell Me a Story … Making your mission come alive through stories” in the September 22, 2011, issue of Fundraising Success stresses the importance of engaging potential donors in your mission in order to convert them to committed supporters.

“A great story for fundraising needs facts.” Tell potential donors how many youth your council has helped and how the community has benefited from the youth’s involvement in the Scouting program―highlight an Eagle Scout’s project or a troop’s service project. “Let the recipients of your help tell donors how great your [council] is.” These are just some ideas to explore.
