Fishing Derby

Districts and Units

Event description

Fishing Derby is a one-day event for districts and units to conduct and invite their communities. Scouts and potential Scouts and their families are invited to attend this activity and bring a fishing pole to learn the fundamentals of fishing, have fun, enjoy fellowship, meet new friends, and eat lots of food.

  • District:Use this activity as a unit spring or summer activity for Scouts and prospective Scouts and their families.
  • Units: Schedule this fun activity for prospective Scouts and families.

Both districts and units can use this activity to heighten the community involvement and spread the word about Scouting in the area. It is a one-day event that will be fun-filled for Scouts and non-Scouts alike. The day can start with a flag ceremony, following with learning how to cast, clinics on fishing, searching for bait, and a contest for the biggest and smallest fish. Have an actual fish fry at the end of the day and a campfire. The main purpose of this event is to attract and recruit more families into Scouting.
