Chess Tournament

Districts and Units

Event description

This is an afternoon or evening event for families involved with Scouting or looking to get involved. The youth can be taught the fundamentals of chess and hold competitions against fellow Scouts and family members. Participants can bring their own chess boards.

  • Districts: Use this activity any time of year for potential and current Scouts and their families.
  • Units: Schedule this as an opportunity for Scouts to brag among themselves and to teach nonchess players the game.

The benefits of playing chess include developing critical thinking skills, concentration skills, and decision-making skills, abilities that can help you in other areas of your life. The main purpose of this event is to attract and recruit more families into Scouting.
