Mountain Trek Equipment List

The following list of equipment is needed for the Mountain Trek.

Packing

  • Pack with padded hip belt (rental available). Capacity: external frame?4,000 cu. in.; internal frame?4,800 cu. in.
  • Pack cover?waterproof nylon*
  • Six to 12 1-gallon resealable plastic bags to pack clothes*

Sleeping

  • Sleeping bag in stuff sack lined with plastic bag
  • Sleep clothes (T-shirt and gym shorts)?worn only in sleeping bag
  • Straps to hold sleeping bag on pack*
  • Foam sleeping pad (closed-cell or Therm-A-Rest)*

Layer A (hiking clothes)

  • Hiking boots?well broken in
  • Lightweight sneakers or tennis shoes
  • Two pairs heavy socks*
  • Three pairs lighter inner socks*
  • Three changes underwear
  • Two hiking shorts*
  • Two short-sleeved shirts (not nylon)*
  • One hat or cap?flexible, with brim*

Layer B (cool evening)

  • One long-sleeved shirt (wool or flannel)
  • One pair long pants, cotton or nylon (not heavy jeans)*
  • One pair insulated underwear*

Layer C (cold)

  • One sweater or jacket (wool or fleece)*
  • One stocking cap (wool or polypropylene)*
  • One pair glove liners or mittens (wool or polypropylene)*

Layer D (cold, wet, windy)

  • Deep bowl (small, plastic)
