MAJOR GIFT ADVISOR

The Boy Scouts of America National Foundation is currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, and driven professional for a Major Gift Advisor.

Working closely with the Foundation’s Executive Director, the Advisor will be responsible for developing personal relationships with major prospects, donors, Executive Board members, and supporters of Scouting nationwide, and for developing strategies to strengthen ties between these individuals and top BSA professionals and volunteers at local and/or national council levels, and help solicit and close major gifts from these individuals.

The primary responsibilities of the Major Gift Advisor are to:

  • Use an organized donor tracking system to identify, qualify, cultivate, and manage contacts with individual prospects
  • Prepare reports and plans for follow-up, cultivation and stewardship services for each donor or prospect contacted
  • Take responsibility for correspondence and contacts
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with individuals with the capacity to make major, leadership gifts to Scouting (minimum gifts of $1,000,000 or more over a five-year period), and to close these gifts.

The qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, and eight years of experience in business development or a similar field.  Up to 75% travel required.  Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification is preferred.

In addition to these qualifications, the ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years of fundraising work which includes responsibilities for building relationships with individuals, or equivalent experience in providing significant levels of client or donor contacts or relationships and experience in soliciting and closing major, leadership level gifts.  S/he is someone who has demonstrated an ability to take initiative in planning, organizing, and effectively presenting ideas and concepts, that possesses the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and problem solve quickly, as well as work independently and on a team.

The successful candidate should be able to work in an environment where teamwork, professional respect, and personal ethics and character are the foundation for achievement; that has an understanding and appreciation for Scouting, its importance and impact, and the experience to share a personal involvement in Scouting (e.g. Eagle Scout, parent of an Eagle Scout, etc.) or another non-profit or community organization.
