Chuck Walneck served as a Scoutmaster in the Blackhawk Area Council for
19 years, but his most significant impact on Boy Scouting has been at the
national level.
As a member of the Boy Scout Committee, Mr. Walneck devised the First Class
Emphasis program and helped lead the realignment of requirements for the Tenderfoot,
Second Class, and First Class ranks. These actions continue to enhance Boy Scout retention
efforts.
Mr. Walneck has worked to improve camping facilities both locally and nationally.
He created a camp development fund to support his council’s camps. At the
national level, he has served on Philmont’s Ranch Committee, where he has overseen
the Philmont Training Center and the ranch’s Properties and Facilities committees.
Among his other leadership roles, Mr. Walneck has served as a council president
and executive board member, a member of the Central Region Executive
Committee, an area president, and a member of the national Boy Scout and
Advancement committees.
For his service to Scouting, Mr. Walneck has received the Silver Beaver
and Silver Antelope awards. He is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow,
a James E. West Fellow, and a 1910 Society and Heritage Society member.
Mr. Walneck, who is president and CEO of SubCon Manufacturing
Corporation, has worked with his grandchildren to send thousands of pounds of Boy
Scout popcorn and Girl Scout cookies to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and to the
families of wounded service members through the Fisher House Foundation.
Mr. Walneck and his wife, Judi, have an Eagle Scout son and two
grandchildren, all of whom are engaged in the Scouting program.
