Who can take this course?

Employees, volunteers, family, and friends – anyone who wants to support the BSA. So it could be a cousin in another state, your neighbor, or your 17-year old son.

How much does it cost?

The course will cost $19.95. That's a $22 discount off the National Safety Council price ($41.95 original). $4.00 will go to BSA.

Will it automatically dismiss my ticket or reduce my insurance rates?

Because regulations vary by state, insurance companies, and driving records, you must check with your local court or insurance agent to make sure they will allow the online Defensive Driving Course (DDC-4) from the National Safety Council.

Do I get any confirmation for taking the course?

When you complete the course, you'll receive a certificate from the National Safety Council that, in many states, may be used to lower automobile insurance rates. Check with you insurance provider to verify before taking the course.

Is this course a membership requirement?

No. This course is totally optional and voluntary.

Can we earn a patch for taking this course?

Not currently.

Is this course available in any other languages?

Yes, this course is available in Spanish.

Will any portion of the money go directly to councils?

Once a program has been in place for a year and can be evaluated, options will be considered.
