General Manager's Letter
Dear Scouts and Scouters,
Welcome to the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base! You are about to embark on a once in a lifetime adventure that will broaden your perspective of our world and experience “ocean adventures that make a lifetime difference”.
When we think about outdoor program and high adventure in Scouting, we typically think of hiking and camping. The Sea Base provides an opportunity to explore another part of our world that few Scouts ever see - the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay.
You’ll have an opportunity to snorkel and dive North America’s only living coral barrier reef and see hard coral, sting rays, manatees, soft corals, sea fans, sharks, grouper and all types of colorful reef fish. Depending on the program you choose, you may fish in the “Sport fishing Capital of the World” as the Keys are called.
You may camp on a 100 acre unimproved island that is largely the same as it was when the Spanish visited in the 1600’s; see the endangered Key Deer and the Key Vaca Raccoon which are both unique to the Keys. If you are on a sailing adventure, you’ll learn the basics of navigation, seamanship and how to live aboard a vessel, much like sailors of old.
The Boy Scout motto is “Be Prepared”; the Participant Guide, Sea Base website and other resources provide you with the information to make the most out of your experience. We know that the better prepared and cohesive a crew is prior to arriving at Sea Base, the better their experience will be.
Our staff at the Sea Base are trained and committed to delivering the highest quality program experience possible. We look forward to welcoming you soon to the Florida Keys.
