Facilities
Laundry
A large coin-operated laundry with washers and dryers is near your tent city and
open 24 hours a day. Soap is available at the Craft Lodge and the Tooth of Time
Traders. Change is available in the PTC Registration Office.
Telephones
Public telephones are in each tent city office and on the program office porch.
Incoming messages to the Training Center Office (505-376-2281) are delivered to
your tent city staff as soon as possible. Only emergency messages are delivered
after 10 P.M. Sorry, but fax service is not available. PTC does offer wireless
internet connectivity, and also has wireless cards for laptop computers available
for rent in the Services office.
Since Philmont is in one of the most rural areas of our country, phone lines are
limited and unreliable. We have tested major long-distance services and most phone
cards. All will work, if you are patient.
Mail
Your mailing address is:
Your Name
Your Conference and Week
Philmont Training Center
17 Deer Run Road
Cimarron, NM 87714
Proper addressing is important. Outgoing mail is picked up at about 10 A.M. from
the mailbox outside the Training Center registration office on Monday through Saturday.
Incoming mail is delivered to a mailbox in your tent city office. Postcards are for
sale in the trading post and the Villa gallery, and stamps are for sale at the PTC
Registration Office. Parcels should be shipped via U.S. mail, Federal Express, or
UPS. Other services do not deliver to Philmont. Do not rely on "next day" service;
allow at least one week.
Health and Safety
Philmont provides a full medical staff at the health lodge in the north section
of the Camping Headquarters area. The health lodge has doctors, nurses, and medics
on duty around the clock for emergencies. Should you or your family need assistance,
you can go directly to the health lodge or contact the Training Center office.
Keep in mind that PTC is at 6,600 feet elevation. People coming from lower
altitudes may experience some discomfort at first. Humidity is low, so visitors
should drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. People who are overweight, out
of shape, or who have health concerns should consult a physician before coming to
Philmont. While the conferences and family programs are not strenuous, some walking
and physical activity is necessary.
Printing
If you wish to share materials with other participants, please bring enough copies
for distribution. Philmont's copying service is very limited.
Tooth of Time Traders
Forgotten personal items, gifts, and Philmont souvenirs are available at the
museums or at the Tooth of Time Traders at Camping
Headquarters. It is easy to spend a lot of money there, as many Scouters who have
been here before can attest. The Trading Post accepts credit and debit cards.
There is also an ATM on the Tooth of Time Trader's premises for your
convience.
The Bulletin Board
Watch the bulletin board! It is a great place to find out what is going on at PTC.
Family group schedules, sign-up sheets, and basic information about Philmont activities
are available. It is also a great place for far-flung families and friends to meet
before heading off to eat, hike, or tour.
Checking the bulliten board regularly helps you and your family in the know
about upcoming program activites and needs, as well as signups for other tours
and events on offer during your stay.
The bulletin board is immediately behind the PTC office on the Greensward.
Lost and Found
There are several locations for lost and found items. The first place to
check is your tent city office, then the Training Center Program and Services
Office.
Religious Services
Chaplains from the Catholic, Latter-day Saints, Jewish, and Protestant faiths conduct
nightly services at the Camping Headquarters area and are available to care for the
spiritual needs of individuals and families upon request.A non-denominational service
will be held at PTC on Sunday evening in the PTC chapel.
