National Scout Jamboree

printer-friendly version

Scouting’s flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It’s a gathering of Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the Boy Scouts of America and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the BSA comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree.

2010 National Scout Jamboree

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree was the highlight of the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary.

Location

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree was held from July 26 through August 4, 2010, at Fort A.P. Hill, near the town of Bowling Green in Caroline County, VA.

  • Located near the historic areas of Washington, D.C., Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Richmond, and Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Participants

The jamboree included:

  • Scouts ages 12–17 years old
  • Male and female Scouters, age 18 and over, serving as staff members
  • 43,434 participants
    • 30,867 Scouts and 3,726 leaders
    • 8,841 staff members and approximately 50,000 visitors
  • 4 regional camping areas and 20 subcamps

A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve

In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River area in order to create The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (The Summit). The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, The Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013 and will become the BSA’s permanent home for the national Scout jamboree.
