PDS: It's All About Your Development

As many of you may know, a major focus of the new Performance and Development System (PDS) is your development. You may say, that’s great, but how do I get started?

Complete Your Profile

First, review and complete the talent profile on the Performance and Development System link. On this page, you can upload your résumé and list your special skills, development plans, etc. By you doing this, council management will be able to gain insight into your experience, education, and skills-sets, which will be extremely helpful when managers are looking for positions to fill.

Take the Training

Second, complete the five training videos under the Knowledge Base gadget on MyBSA. The courses are “PDS Overview,” “SMART Goals,” “Understanding Competencies,” “Employment Development Planning,” and “Evaluating Results and Ratings.” Because it is so important for you to understand and for us to be able to move forward as an organization, this training is mandatory and will be posted to your training record.

Establish Your Goals

Lastly, if you haven’t already done so, input your three to five SMART goals for 2010. One of your goals must be your Essential Job Function or what you are basically paid to do by your job profile. Your other SMART goals must, when achieved, truly add value and be tied to your council’s strategic plan. You can find specific examples of SMART goals within the “SMART Goals” training video.

Start 2010 off right! Make sure YOU focus on your development.
