It's been another great summer here at Philmont, with over 23,000 campers, 3,500 training center participants, and 1,100 staff members making all the gears turn. We're sad to see the summer end, but Philmont is open all year round and we have a variety of great programs available during our second season. We're even beginning to plan for next summer, so check out the latest schedules and news at Whether it's on a trek, at a conference, or as a staff member, there are always opportunities to come back to Philmont!

2011-08-08 - Conservation

I've Been Working on the Trail Road...

This week's PhilCast features three special Philmont treks focused on conservation and trail building. Trail Crew Trek, Order of the Arrow Trail Crew, and the Roving Outdoor Conservation School (ROCS) each offer participants a unique opportunity to leave a positive mark on Philmont for decades to come.

Philmont is home to more wildlife than just Boy Scouts and mini-bears. We also share space with more than 200 black bears. This week we hear from Philmont's bear researchers about how our staff and campers co-exist with these wild animals.

As the largest high-adventure camp in the U.S., Philmont works hard to manage its land sustainably while minimizing its impact on the environment. This week's PhilCast features our Conservation Sustainable Resource Specialist talking about Philmont's efforts to go green.

This week's PhilCast features one of the Philmont Training Center's most exciting family programs - Mountain Trek! Designed for 14 to 20 year olds seeking a rugged wilderness adventure, Mountain Trek takes crews into Philmont's backcountry for a week-long backpacking experience.

They're amuseuming!

Most people come to Philmont in search of outdoor adventure, but there is more to learn here than how to tie a bear bag. The third episode of PhilCast explores Philmont's rich history that has been preserved in its museums: the Villa Philmonte, Philmont Museum, Seton Memorial Library and the Kit Carson museum at Rayado.

PTC - It's across the street!

Check out this week's PhilCast to see what's happening at the Philmont Training Center this summer! Since 1950, the PTC has served as the National Training Center for the Boy Scouts of America. The PTC holds week long conferences for Scouters from across the country, along with unique outdoor programs designed for every family member to enjoy.
